I’m a big Gary V fan - however - his comment about “social media experts” really hit home. I don’t consider myself an expert on social media, but who is? There are no degrees for this - no one is getting a doctorate in social media. The best thing a “social media expert” can do is have a solid business mind, know how to develop context and engage loyal clients, as well as, intrigue new leads - and, finally, know what their clients or employers want from social media marketing efforts. When engaging your clients needs, a Social Media Manager can understand goals and objectives - and develop a plan to help their clients reach those goals.
I absolutely agree with what Gary is saying in the video. I often laugh when I hear people refer to themselves as social media experts, gurus, geniuses. Interestingly enough until someone, somewhere starts passing out degrees, we are all learning how to succeed in communication and advertising via social mediums and we are learning together.
